At work, you can say you’re tired, but not bitter.
An employee who had worked for three years always felt exhausted and saw no clear future. In his confusion, he decided to resign. After learning about his situation, the boss asked, "Do you know how a caterpillar crosses the river?" The employee gave three answers:
The employee said, "By crossing a bridge," but the boss shook his head and replied, "There is no bridge." The employee then said, "By floating on a leaf," to which the boss responded, "The leaf would be carried away by the water." The employee tried again, "By being eaten by a bird and crossing in its stomach," but the boss emphasized, "In that case, the caterpillar would die, losing the meaning of crossing the river."
So, how does a caterpillar actually cross the river?
Finally, the boss told the employee: The only way for a caterpillar to cross the river is to become a butterfly. Before transforming into a butterfly, the caterpillar undergoes a painful stage: it stays in a cocoon, surrounded by darkness, with no food or water.
A small fact: A butterfly’s life has four stages. It starts as an egg, which hatches into a larva (caterpillar) after 3–6 days. After five molts, the larva becomes a pupa. Over 9–14 days, the pupa transforms into a butterfly inside the cocoon. When it emerges, its wings are wet and soft, but it can fly within an hour.
My friend, if you’re also thinking of resigning, first ask yourself: Do you already have the ability to "fly like a butterfly"? Changing jobs can leave you struggling for six months; switching careers may take three years. This is dedicated to those who daily think about resigning, those who periodically consider it, or those who vocalize it!
